Postnatal Pilates
For new Mom’s, The Pilates Programme on-demand library offers a comprehensive Postnatal introduction class, a 4-Week Postnatal Programme , as well as a number of postnatal classes. These classes focus on how to reconnect to your core and rebuild your strength in a safe way.
Once you feel comfortable with the postnatal classes, I recommend moving onto the Traditional Pilates category and applying the principles from the postnatal specific classes. Thereafter, pick and choose from any class category to find what works best for you.
Your body has been through such an incredible experience and I’m so happy that you have chosen to give yourself the time to reconnect to your body and rebuild your strength.
Please see below a guideline of what is safe for you to do at this time and what to avoid. But, bear in mind, because I’m not there with you and not aware of your past medical history or your pregnancy and birthing journey, it’s important you liaise with your GP before starting or continuing with The Pilates Programme.
Tips for Postnatal Pilates
Please ensure you have been advised by your consultant or GP that it is safe for you to return to exercise before beginning The Pilates Programme. This is usually 6-weeks post-partum, but it can be different for everyone.
I always recommend to my postnatal clients to see a Women’s Health Physiotherapist to assess your Pelvic Floor and to assess for Diastasis Recti (abdominal separation).
Take the time to go through the Postnatal Introduction video and familiarise yourself with how to correctly activate and reconnect to your core and pelvic floor muscles. I have some really informative videos to guide you through core and pelvic floor exercises.
At this time it’s important that you listen to your body. Aim for a light/moderate intensity in the classes. Don’t rush your recovery, stop and take breaks as many times as you need to.
What your body has done is so amazing and I’m so proud of you for taking time to focus on you. Remember, I am here to support you on this journey so please feel free to contact me and I will help you in any way I can.
